I live about thirty miles west of Abilene, Kansas. They celebrate annually their Chisolm trail history. Cattlemen used the Chisolm trail to bring their longhorn cattle up from Texas. They loaded them on cars in Abilene. From there the cattle went east to the markets in New York and surrounding area. I'm fascinated by those longhorn cattle and the men and women who brought them up. This is my depiction of a young cowboy with lasso. I picture him driving the longhorn cattle the last few miles to Abilene where they are moved into corrals and then loaded in box cars to head east.
