The flickering bright light deep in the shadows are what attracted me to this view. I wanted to convey the flickering light against shadows. The first stage of painting was to capture the places of strong light and contrast them with the darker spots. After that I came back in to group related color areas without losing the sparkle. This is one of the most difficult paintings I have ever attempted.
